The Sr. Director of Major Gifts manages an individual fundraising portfolio with a focus on generating new financial support from individuals. This person is committed to developing a portfolio of approximately $1 million annually.


  • Serve as Development Director for individual philanthropy (annual and capital fundraising efforts, as well as programmatic sponsorships).
  • Develop an individual portfolio of approximately $1 million annually with a growth expectation of 20-30% per year.
  • Create and implement a fundraising plan and calendar for a successful individual fundraising program.
  • Track results based on individual grant terms and provide, where required, impact reports upon completion of grant period.
  • Steward and grow a portfolio of leadership partners.
  • Proactively identify, cultivate, and close new donors at the $100k+ level.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 150 qualified donors or prospects, and apply a moves management approach to the portfolio, with a custom cultivation strategy for each donor.
  • Conduct a minimum of 12 face-to-face prospect meetings per month and establish a strategic and systematic focus on closing multi‚Äźyear commitments
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships and create strategies for increased revenue support from current donors, including solicitations for sponsorship and Museum’s campaign.
  • Maintain data for assigned portfolio in Raiser’s Edge database and be fully compliant with the prospect management policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with internal colleagues to understand how best to align ongoing programming and other strategic initiatives with corporate giving programs.
  • Oversee individual correspondence/communications.
  • Draft funding proposals, grant and sponsorship applications, and grant reports.
  • Work closely across all external facing departments to identify alignment to and opportunities for fundraising.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, with a strong preference for experience with individual cultivation.
  • Track record of meeting/exceeding ambitious fundraising goals while maintaining an inclusive, collaborative leadership style.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with an ability to use data to make decisions and to translate strategy into action.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships across a wide variety of individuals and groups, both internally and externally.
  • Proven ability to independently manage follow-up communications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.


Extended work hours as needed. Attendance at Autry Functions and events.
