The Director of Individual Giving is a key position within the Center’s Development Department, primarily responsible for the management of the Major Gifts program and overseeing the entire Individual Giving team.  Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Major Gifts, this position is a frequent collaborater with the Development Department’s 18-person staff and other Center administrative departments. The ideal candidate will be a team player with strong organizational and interpersonal skills and a sense of humor. Experience with the performing arts is a plus.


  • Responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual giving donors to support the Center’s acclaimed artistic programming and innovative education programs
  • Manage a personal portfolio of approximately 100 individual donors and prospects, inclusive of annual, campaign and planned giving supporters
  • Develop an annual comprehensive strategic plan for the Major Gifts membership program; responsible for budgeting, projections, recognition, event planning, and overseeing member benefits
  • Work with the Senior Manager of Individual Giving and Manager of Annual Giving to ensure that all three individual giving programs have consistent messaging
  • Collaborate with the Special Events team to provide strategy for 5-8 yearly events for current and prospective donors such as intimate dinners, receptions and the Center’s prominent Fire Bird Dinner
  • Create an advisory council of CPAs, estate attorneys and other wealth advisors to promote the Center’s giving opportunities through professionals that work with high-networth individuals and families
  • Oversee the Center’s ‘Legacy Society’ to cultivate and steward planned giving donors
  • Participate in structured sessions with colleagues to coordinate prospect identification activities and moves management
  • Attend Center events and performances as needed. 
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Department to create brochures, pamphlets and other collateral materials to promote giving opportunities 
  • Review donor trends and prepare reports to determine effective acquisition and stewardship strategies
  • Provide thoughtful, consistent and appropriate stewardship including benefit fulfillment for all major gifts and planned giving donors
  • Document all activity and contacts in Tessitura tracking database in an accurate and timely manner
  • Supervise the Manager of Individual Giving 
  • Serve as a leader within the development department and mentor junior staff
  • Other duties as assigned to best support the organization’s mission 

Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Five+ years of fundraising experience, preferably in the area of individual giving
  • Demonstrated success in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors
  • Knowledge of deferred giving vehicles and experience soliciting planned gifts
  • Strong computer and database management skills. Familiarity with the Tessitura database will be a plus
  • Superior oral, written communication and presentation skills
  • Experience working with a broad base of leaders, and in the training, managing and motivating of key volunteers

This is a full-time exempt position with benefits. Typical hours are 9:00am - 5:30pm with periodic evenings and weekends required.
