The Director of Donor Relations provides the strategic direction, oversight and framework for best practice in donor relations, demonstrates high proficiency in tactical execution and coordination to ensure the University demonstrates to its donors due accountability, gratitude, recognition and responsiveness. The director will conceptualize, plan, implement, coordinate and monitor a comprehensive, multi-year donor relations and stewardship plan to advance institutional efforts that encompasses all donor groups (e.g. individuals, foundations, and corporations) as well as key segments within each (e.g. major gift donors, estate donors, loyal individual donors, alumni, parents, friends, etc.) that will provide the highest degree of customization and personalization possible. Works closely with University and Advancement leadership and gift officers, senior staff, deans and academic/administrative department heads and supervises a staff of two (2) and student workers.
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.
Minimum five years of progressive, demonstrated successful experience in a comprehensive donor relations/ stewardship program or development, alumni or university relations program with proven leadership success.
Leadership skills to build, engage and motivate a team, improve services, connect with diverse constituents, and foster a collaborative environment.
The skill to develop internal partnerships and collaborations to ensure that stewardship is demonstrated to donors through a host of means and activities, and from all relevant institutional representatives.
The ability to work strategically, develop and implement communication plans and processes in collaboration with internal partners and stakeholders.
Must be an outstanding communicator and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal skills; and the ability to interact effectively with a diverse constituency.
