“CITY OF HOPE TO DEVELOP NEW $200 MILLION BEST-IN-CLASS CANCER CENTER IN ORANGE COUNTY, CA”
The rich history of City of Hope began in 1913, when a group of volunteers, spurred by compassion to help those afflicted with tuberculosis, raised money to start a free, nonsectarian sanatorium. Today, City of Hope is still powered by philanthropy, and is recognized worldwide for compassionate patient care, innovative science, and translational research. https://www.cityofhope.org/about-city-of-hope
Since its founding, City of Hope has been unwavering in its tackling of catastrophic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and HIV/AIDS. Today, City of Hope is one of only 45 comprehensive cancer centers in the nation, the highest recognition bestowed by the National Cancer Institute. City of Hope has been ranked as one of the nation’s best Cancer Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report for over 10 years. With excellence in bone marrow and stem cell transplants, its program is one of the largest and most successful in the world, with unrivaled survival rates. City of Hope is also a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, with research and treatment protocols that advance care throughout the nation.
In May 2018, City of Hope announced the appointment of Annette Walker, a nationally-recognized health care executive, as president of City of Hope, Orange County. Walker oversees the new $200 million cancer center, which will extend City of Hope’s clinical network with leading-edge technologies and dedicated oncology specialists on property donated to City of Hope by the FivePoint joint venture that owns the Great Park Neighborhoods’ project. She will also strengthen the longstanding relationships City of Hope has built with patients, volunteers and philanthropic supporters in Orange County who have come to regard City of Hope as Southern California’s premier cancer research and treatment center.
Walker comes to City of Hope from the nation’s second largest not-for-profit health system, Providence St. Joseph Health. She served as president of strategy for Providence St. Joseph Health and chief executive of St. Joseph Health. In 2017, she was named one of the top 25 women in U.S. health care by Modern Healthcare magazine. Walker was responsible for system-wide strategy, marketing and business development across the seven-state Providence St. Joseph Health system.
The new AVP-OC will report to the Senior Vice President of Philanthropy Nathan Chappell. The AVP-OC will be the first and most senior development executive for Orange County and work very closely with the President of Orange County, Annette Walker. The AVP-OC will be charged with building upon Orange County’s track record of success by further developing the organization’s vision and achieving its goals for significant growth in philanthropy and community engagement.
City of Hope, Orange County is seeking a Development executive who places team before individual achievement, is creative and innovative, has mission passion and intellectual curiosity, is collaborative yet personally accountable, and can “connect the dots” between their work and the work of others, on behalf of donors and philanthropy.
